dmv

i am currently at the seattle dmv trying to get a washington driver's license. i have been here for thirty minutes and they have helped about 10 people. at this rate my number 613 will be called somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 and a half hours. go government!
luckily there is a tully's next door and i can tap into their free wireless and do some school work.
i know that complaining about the dmv wait is common and overdone, but seriously, what is the hold up? why do government offices always seem understaffed and the staff that is there is particularly slow. believe it or not, i have a theory.
these people work for the city, state, or country and it's not really run like a business. if this were a book store or retail chain they would call people off of the floor in order to fill up all of the registers--in order to make more money. money is the key, they need to make a profit. you would think that the government would be at least slightly interested in making a profit, but apparently they are not. they under staff continuously busy places like the dmv and post office because it appears to save them money. in reality it just pisses off all of the people that come there and have to wait for hours for a procedure that takes a matter of seconds. if local/state/national entities were interested in improving the morale of their constituencies they would hire another person or two for each office for a sub-par salary and help more people faster; raking in more fees per hour. i don't have an MBA but it seems simple--hire more people, help more people, make more money because the wage you are paying that additional person is almost inconsequential.
enough. i should really be in charge of the world. you would love it, and you would never have to wait. thus my official announcement for running for world president. but when i get elected it will be high master king sjy the benevolent.

Please don't give the government any ideas. They are already robbing us blind with taxes. I dont want to give more.

I have a different opinion on why places like that take so long. I have observed it isn't that the workers are particularly slow, but that the majority of people around you are much stupider than you are. It's all the other people that hold things up.
