take away, take away
(those of you that know social d will be able to complete the lyric in the subject line.)
according to my dear friend JPK, i have to either post again for the month of august or disband my blog. so here's your post JPK, you've earned it.
i am hurtling toward my wedding faster than i can really keep up with. we're just under 2 months out and i'm beginning to feel a bit more comfortable with the idea. no, no, it's not that i was ever really uncomfortable with the idea of marriage (i wouldn't have asked had that been the case), but when you sit down and think about it, it can get a bit scary. it has to grow on you a bit.
take two 28 year old people (freight trains) who are fiercely independent, with different views on money, politics, religion (just to name a few of the minor ones), and set them on a collision course called engagement, and at the end of that time force them to share everything. boom.
i don't know who thought of this marriage stuff, but it is an inherently bad idea and i'm not surprised most people have so much trouble with getting, or staying married.
now that i've set you up to hate marriage, i'll tell you about the reason that people still attempt this impossible feat. you guessed it: love. love is dumb. it messes up your head in ways that you can never expect, and most of the time you never even realize. love is why you see 6'5", 300lb dudes talking baby talk to their girlfriends. love is why you see women with ridiculous men and men with ridiculous women. it is the all-time #1 clouder of judgment; at least alcohol (a distant 2nd) wears off after a few hours. love is the reason that you fight and fight and then run into the arms of the person whose eyes you wanted to gouge out a few minutes/hours before (that's hyperbole people, i'm not abusive). it turns you into a drooling, emotionally unstable, irrational mess. and yet, it seems to be the one thing that everyone wants, which proves my hypothesis that humans are dumb.
all this to say that i'm in deep. i'm the drooling, emotionally unstable, irrational mess, and i'm getting more excited about clamping on that ball and chain every day. we'll see what happens.
bonus blog!: as i write this i am watching the opening college football game of the season. 4 years ago i couldn't have even told you when the first game would be and had you asked i would have made you feel like an idiot. then came fantasy football, and ncaa '04 (video game) and i was hooked. i totally love football now. gig 'em aggies.
